Dr. Jayashankar M. Swaminathan, Associate Dean, OneMBA Program, UNC
Dr. Swaminathan is the associate dean of OneMBA and the UNC-Tsinghua EMBA Program. He is also the director of the UNC Kenan-Flagler Global Business Center. Dr. Swaminathan is an internationally recognized thought leader in innovations and productivity improvements related to global operations and supply chain management. He has published dozens of articles in leading academic journals and won numerous awards, including NSF Career Award, George Nicholson Prize, Schwabacher Fellowship and Weatherspoon Distinguished research and teaching awards. His insights have also appeared in business publications, including the Financial Times and Businessweek.
He teaches courses in global operations, global supply chain strategy and management, and doing business in India. His book, Indian Economic Superpower: Fiction or Future?, highlights the emergence of India and its implications for businesses. He has consulted with many organizations over the last two decades, including AGCO, Agilent, CEMEX, Cisco, IBM, Kaiser, McKinsey, Nokia, Public Health Institute, Railinc, Samsung, Sara Lee, Schaeffler Group, TVS Motors, UNICEF and the U.S. Navy. His work with UNICEF has led to major changes in the global supply chain planning and execution for Plumpy’Nut (RUTF) into Africa. His work on configure-to-order assembly using vanilla boxes impacted the electronics industry in the 1990s.
He obtained his PhD and master’s in industrial administration from GSIA (now Tepper) at Carnegie Mellon University, and his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering is from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Sarah Perez, Executive Director, OneMBA Program, UNC
Sarah serves as Executive Director, MBA for Executives Programs at UNC’s Kenan- Flagler Business School. She joined UNC Kenan-Flagler from Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, where she served for eight years. At FIU, she was executive director of the Executive and Professional MBA Programs, which ranged from the executive MBA to the newly launched Corporate MBA, an online program. She is an active member of the Executive MBA Council. Prior to joining FIU, she served as area manager, Europe, for Information Handling Services (IHS), a global information company that is based in Englewood, Colo. At IHS, she held positions in marketing and product management, and was based in Barcelona, Spain. She also served as marketing manager, Central America, for the New Zealand Dairy Board and was based in Guatemala City.
