More than 100 OneMBA participants arrive in Washington D.C., flying in from Europe, Asia, North America and South America. Checking into the hotel, you see managers from multinational companies. But you also may find lawyers, physicians, entrepreneurs, scientists, military officers, or environmental activists.
These people will be OneMBA classmates for the next two years, growing personally and professionally as global business leaders. But just as important, they form a network of good friends and respected colleagues for life.]]>
Sample Itinerary
Sunday
OneMBA participants from around the globe arrive in Washington, D.C. During the opening reception and dinner, the students get to know each other and meet OneMBA staff and professors.
Monday
OneMBA students have breakfast with their first global team. Lectures topics include global leadership and the evolution of the world economy. Afternoon soccer and volleyball games help participants bridge cultural differences and get some exercise.
Tuesday
Lectures and discussions focus on sustainable enterprise, the global business environment and far-flung teams.
Wednesday
Morning discussions build participants’ understanding of the United States economy and innovation. After lunch, global teams compete in a team-building exercise as they explore the city together.
Thursday
OneMBA students visit the U.S. Capital and meet with Congressman David Price during a historic week as Congress debates the multi-billion dollar economic rescue plan.
Friday
Ambassador Robert Hunter shares insights on US foreign policy and international relations. The retail IT director for an international food franchise discusses managing technology. The closing dinner celebration includes birthday songs sung by participants in their native languages.
Saturday
AOL’s executive VP shares lessons on corporate transformation. Participants return home.

Congressman David Price takes time out to meet with OneMBA students on Capitol Hill as the $700 billion economic stabilization program is negotiated. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Price is able to give students his insider’s perspective on this historic week for the global economy.

Before heading for the airport, there is time left for one last meeting with an executive from AOL who shares the challenges facing his company and the IT industry. OneMBA participants from around the globe arrive in Rotterdam in time for the welcome dinner.
Monday
Sustainability and supply chains are the topics of talks with the International Affairs Editor for the Financial Times and a VP from Royal Dutch Shell.
Tuesday
OneMBA students see the Port of Rotterdam and discuss its challenges with Port authorities. Later they discuss turbulence in the airline industry with the commissioner Air France KLM. Participants depart on a charter jet to Istanbul, Turkey.
Wednesday
Participants learn about socio-political environment of Turkey from local Sabanci University professors.
Thursday
Discussions focus on innovation with Sony executives and retail banking in Turkey with the CEO of Fortis Bank Turkey and other local banking executives.
Friday
Students have a wide choice of companies and organizations to visit: Mercedes Benz, Alkas shopping center, Kagider women’s entrepreneur association, Favori gold jewelry exporter and CNN Turkey.
Saturday
Global teams present projects and discuss the development of nanotechnology in Turkey with the CEO of Hexagon Consulting. Participants leave for their home countries.

What better place to study supply chains than at one of the world’s largest ports? Strategically positioned on the North Sea, the port of Rotterdam handles more than 300 million tons of goods a year. Watching ships from around the world loading and unloading containers, it’s clear why Holland is called the gateway to Europe.

Students spread across this vibrant city visiting local businesses and organizations, including CNN Turkey; Alkas, which has launched dozens of retail shopping centers across Turkey; Mercedes Benz; and Favori, a gold jewelry manufacturer and exporter. With such interesting choices, selecting only one was difficult.

European farewell

Students share a farewell dinner in a restaurant housed in an ancient cistern built by the Romans. The next day, the students will return to their home countries where they will attend local classes and work remotely with their global team until they meet again in Latin America.

Participants fly into Monterrey, Mexico.
Sunday
OneMBA sessions focus on leadership, ethics, and marketing, as well as the implications of corporate governance for investing in international markets. New global teams are formed and team members begin work together.
Monday
Meetings with the president of the Mexican automotive industry focus on the challenges they face. Other speakers include executives from Coca-Cola and CEMEX, a multinational building materials company. The day ends with a traditional Mexican fiesta dinner.
Tuesday
Participants learn about Mexican history and culture at the Mexican History Museum. A visit to the Whirlpool plant is followed by a chartered jet flight to São Paulo, Brazil.
Wednesday
A free day ends with a welcome reception and dinner in São Paulo.
Thursday
Lectures on Brazilian financial systems and social responsibility are followed by visits to the Afro-Brazilian Museum and a children’s music school.
Friday
Participants learn about Brazil’s agricultural and economic development from a former Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. Participants depart for their home country.

São Paulo vibrates with energy generated by its diverse artistic culture. Students gain a broader perspective of black Brazilians’ contributions as they explore the Afro-Brazil Museum, located in Ibirapuera Park. They also visit the park’s auditorium, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the world-renowned Brazilian modern architect.

Brazil’s natural resources create a rich environment for businesses, including multinational cosmetic company, Natura. Students gain appreciation of this country’s contributions to manufacturing, fashion, and agriculture/food. They also better understand the social and environmental challenges facing emerging markets.

OneMBA participants arrive in Delhi. During the opening reception and dinner, they learn about the changing business landscape in India.
Sunday
Participants met the managing director of Deki Electronics and learn about the nuances of conducting business in India, including legal aspects, taxes and employee relations, and the impact of the economic slowdown.
Monday
Company visits include: Su-Kam Power Systems (power backup leader), Evalueserve (knowledge outsourcing pioneer), and JNS Instruments (automotive instrument exporter), and Hero Honda Motors (world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer).
Tuesday
Discussions focus on India in the global economy and cultural issues of managing large Indian organizations. Participants visit Central Cottage Industries Emporium featuring handcrafts by local artisans.
Wednesday
Participants arrive in Hong Kong. They visit Ocean Park Hong Kong and meet the theme park’s executive director to discuss market positioning in a global economy.
Thursday
Company visits include Jetta Industries (toy and robotics OEM leader), C.G. Development (OEM remote controller manufacturer), and Lo Wu Commercial City. Participants enjoy a free evening exploring Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
Friday
Discussions focus on business in the PRC, including corporate social responsibility, governance and accountability, and globalization. The day ends with the Asia Closing Dinner.
Saturday
Participants meet with the retired president of Emerson Electric (China) to gain insights from his 30 years of doing business in China before departing for their home country.

They learn the nuances of doing business in India from local executives and government leaders. Over coffee, you may overhear conversations about Delhi’s intense humidity and vast population – and, of course, the city’s fast changing business environment.

Before departing for Hong Kong, students gain a broader view of India’s culture by exploring the Central Cottage Industries Emporium with handicrafts made by local artisans. Some students arrived a few days before the residency to visit the Taj Mahal and other Indian treasures on their own.

OneMBA students visit Jetta Company Limited, a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the robotic toy industry. The day before, they discussed global market positioning with the executive director of Ocean Park Hong Kong.

Asian farewell

The night before students depart for their home countries, The Chinese University of Hong Kong hosts a farewell dinner, including a Chinese dance performance. This is a time of excitement as graduation approaches, but there is also some sadness. Many students are already looking forward to meeting again at annual OneMBA alumni events.
