Career Goal
During my 20-year career, Alcon has given me increasing responsibilities in Brazil, the United States, Chile and Mexico. Last year, I returned to Brazil as general manager over Alcon’s largest Latin American operation, including manufacturing, sales and customer service, and back-office operations. I hope to continue to expand my ability to contribute to Alcon’s global growth.
Why OneMBA?
I looked for a global MBA program that would give me exposure to other industries and markets. I also needed a program that would not interfere with my job. One option would be an executive management program offered by schools like Harvard and Stanford. But I believe OneMBA’s monthly classes in Sao Paulo, combined with four residencies around the world is more effective than these shorter courses offered only in the United States.
Career Impact
- Refined decision-making skills: OneMBA has exposed me to different industries and scenarios, giving me a broader view beyond my experience at Alcon. My main area of expertise is sales and marketing. I now have a more analytic and strategic approach in all business areas, especially operations and finance.
- Stronger leadership skills: Before OneMBA, I tended to make decisions or develop solutions for the people who report to me. Now, I ask them the right questions to help them think more strategically and come to their own solutions. That’s my main job – to develop my people!
- Immediate application: For a global team project, we researched radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and its impact on global supply chain management. I brought this concept back to my company and we are planning to implement it. I probably would not have been open to this idea before OneMBA. I now have a deeper understanding of business operations, which helps my company gain a competitive advantage.
